Football Recap: Denver Edge Hapless Jets in Low-Scoring Affair
In a low-scoring contest this weekend, the Denver Broncos managed to secure a 13-11 win over the struggling New York Jets. Signal-caller Bo Nix connected on a first-quarter scoring strike and specialist Wil Lutz provided the late go-ahead field goal to seal the ugly win.
Defensive Performance Seals Game
Even with recording nine sacks versus Jets quarterback Justin Fields, the Broncos were behind 11-10 following conceding a safety in the third quarter. Remarkably, the Jets managed a mere 82 offensive yards throughout the contest.
The Denver quarterback, who went 19 of 30 passes for 174 yards, led a decisive 12-play, 65-yard possession that culminated in Lutz's short field goal with just over five minutes remaining.
Historic Struggles for Jets Offense
In spite of their horrendous offensive display, the Jets still had the ball with a opportunity to score a potential victory. But Fields was tackled on fourth-and-eight from the Denver 44 when coach Aaron Glenn chose to attempt the conversion rather than calling on specialist Nick Folk for a difficult kick.
Fields struggled all game, completing just 9 of 17 passes for 45 yards. New York finished with minus-10 net yards passing, the fewest in any game since 1998.
"The aerial attack was non-existent," Glenn stated following the contest.
